Guest Speaker: Fil Anderson

Fil Anderson is executive director of Journey Resources, based in Greensboro, North Carolina. He’s a frequent conference speaker, spiritual director, and directs retreats and workshops nationally and internationally. A member of the pastoral staff of St. Mark’s Church he provides on-site soul care to their staff and volunteers.   Fil is also a member of the Board of Trustees at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology.

He is the author of Running on Empty: Contemplative Spirituality for Overachievers (Waterbrook) and Breaking the Rules: Trading Performance for Intimacy with God (InterVarsity). Fil contributed to Transformation of a Man’s Heart: Reflections on the Masculine Journey (InterVarsity). He’s also a regular writer for InTouch Magazine and various other publications.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Fuller Theological Seminary, he also completed the Graduate Program in Christian Spiritual Guidance at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation. Fil worked with Young Life for twenty-five years, serving as Area Director and Regional Director before becoming National Director of Training.

He and his wife, Lucie, live in Greensboro and are the parents of three adult children. Avid beach lovers, they frequent Wrightsville Beach, NC as often as possible.

 

 

Conference Events

FRIENDS WOMEN PRAYER BREAKFAST

The Friends Women’s Prayer Breakfast will take place at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, in the Atrium (lower level) of the Casado Center.  Tickets are $15 each ($8 if you are already registered for the conference meal plan).  All women are invited to share breakfast, connect with missionaries and mission fields, get the latest from EFC-MAYM Friends Women and EFC-NA Women’s Missionary Fellowship, and share a special time of worship and prayer.  This year’s theme is “ A Season of Prayer”.  Advance reservations are required.

SUNDAY MORNING COMMUNITY WORSHIP CELEBRATION

A CLOSING Community Worship Celebration will be held at 10:30 am in Davis Alumni Auditorium at Friends University on Sunday morning, July 29.  Every member of the EFC-MAYM family is encouraged to attend this final gathering of Ministry Conference 2018 which will include the recording service.  Congregations are encouraged to release their pastors from local church pulpits on Sunday, July 29 in order to allow as many as possible to participate in this service. Live video streaming of the Community Worship Celebration will be available here for those who are not able to travel to Wichita.  *** There will be a reception at 9:00 am prior to the service to honor those being recorded on the 2ndfloor of Davis Hall.

 

CHILDREN’S CONFERENCE

All Children’s Conference sessions (ages 0-6thgrade) will be held at University Friends Church.  Child registrations include scheduled meals.  Children may arrive fifteen minutes before each scheduled Ministry Conference session and should be picked up promptly after each session for meals with their family.  Children’s Conference session will last from Thursday afternoon to Sunday morning as per the official schedule.  Families with registered children will be sent further details no later than a week prior to the conference.    ***Please note:  Sunday morning Children’s Conference is only for ages 0-2ndgrade.  3rd-6thgraders are encouraged to attend the Community Worship Celebration service with their families.

 

Conference Details

 

CONFERENCE CHECK-IN

Thursday:  Check-in will be at the Green Residence Hall entrance between 1:00-2:00pm, 4:00-5:30 pm and 9:00-10:00 pm.  Check in will not be available during the opening session on Thursday evening.

Friday-Saturday: Check-in and dorm key pick-up will take place at the Conference Registration Desk which will be in the Riney Fine Arts Center foyer, open from 8:30am-9:00pm between scheduled activities.

MEALS

All meals will be served in the dining room of Casado Campus Center.  The first meal served is Thursday dinner.  The last meal served is Saturday evening dinner.  There will be a 9:00am Sunday morning reception in honor of the recording candidates, so no breakfast will be served Sunday morning. You will have the chance to select what meals you will be eating when you register online.

CONFERENCE PRICING

Early bird registration price for adults is $120 for full registration and $128 for full registration plus the Friends Women Breakfast.  Ministry Conference T-shirts will be available to order on-line for $10 or $12, depending on sizing.  Early bird registration for the Children’s Conference is $85 for ages 0-6thgrade.  Registration prices increase by $20 on July 1stfor each option, and end on July 18th in order to finalize with Friends University.  Any registrations after that date will need to be called in to the office.

HOUSING

Free Lodging will be facilitated in Green Residence Hall at Friends University, rooms available Thursday through Saturday nights.  You must register before July 18 to reserve a room.  These rooms will be assigned on a first come first served basis, as they fill up quickly every year.  There are two elevators in the building.  Bring your own bedding/pillow, towels and personal items.  Each suite includes 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, and has a kitchenette. Each bedroom contains two single beds. Please indicate when you register your preferences for suite mates.  We will make every effort to accommodate your requests.  Motels are available close to the campus if you would like to make your own reservations.

 

CONFERENCE OFFERING

Half of this year’s offering collected at al General Sessions will go to EFM for pastoral leadership training in Burundi, and the other half to Home Missions to cover expenses for our newest church planting pastors of  Abilene African Friends Church in Abilene, TX to be able to join us at Ministry Conference.

OTHER

Display tables at Ministry Conference may be requested in advance by contacting Janet Penna at 316-267-0391 or janet@efcmaym.org, or by noting your request on your on-line registration. The first 18 requested will have space in Sebits Auditorium foyer. 

Audio recordings of all services will be available on our website after the completion of Ministry Conference free of charge.

 2 golf carts will be available to shuttle participants around the campus between sessions.

CHURCH REGISTRATIONS

Churches are encouraged to send a one-time fee of $100 (more than 100 members) or $50 (less than 100 members) to help cover costs for the conference for those who wish to attend the General Sessions only.
